New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton today announced Jairus Byrd, the team's major free-agent acquisition this offseason, has been placed on the "physically unable to perform" list.

Payton said Byrd is ahead of schedule in his recovery from back surgery during the offseason. The coach said he expects Byrd to get enough practice in to be ready to go when the season
