The official biography of former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards hits the bookstores today.
It traces the life of Edwards from his childhood in Avoyelles Parish, to the governor's mansion, to his current life in the federal prison at Oakdale, where he is serving his sentence for corruption convictions.
Author Leo Honeycutt says the book holds some surprises, even for those who have known Edwards for a long time.
Honeycutt says his book is a factual, "warts and all" portrait of the highs and the lows in Edwards life and political career.
Honeycutt says he has spent over two years interviewing the four-term governor, compiling historical data on Edwards' life and times, as well conducting interviews with those that know and love him. He says he also talked to those who did not hold Edwards in high regard.
Honeycutt says Edwards was not entirely happy with some parts of the book, especially the chapters dealing with the racketeering conviction that sent him to federal prison.
