Saints sign rookie linebacker

The New Orleans Saints have waived fullback Kyle Eckel and signed linebacker Anthony Waters off of the Buffalo Bills' practice squad.

The Saints also announced Wednesday that they have signed rookie fullback Marcus Mailei from the Philadelphia's practice squad.

Waters, a 6', 3", 238-pound former Clemson player, was a third-round draft pick by San Diego in 2007 and spent two seasons with the Chargers, playing in seven games.

He was signed by the Saints in April but was one of the club's final cuts of the preseason.

Eckel joined the Saints on Oct. 29 after Heath Evans' season-ending knee injury. He played in five games for New Orleans, primarily as a blocker.

Mailei, who is 6', 255 lb., played at Weber State.
