3 big local festivals this weekend

There are three local festivals for folks to choose from this weekend.

The Bridge City Gumbo Fest is back after being rained out earlier this year.

"I think this time we're going to have beautiful weather. We have excellent entertainment, excellent food...so it's going to be fun," says Bridge City Fire Chief Gary Girard. There's no admission through Sunday, and parking is free as well.

Eddie Money is the headliner as Kenner's Laketown Festival returns to Williams Boulevard at the lake tomorrow.

Rounding out the entertainment are Cowboy Mouth, the Chee Weez, Rockin' Dopsie and the Top Cats. The food and drink comes from favorite restaurants around Kenner.

"We'll even have a special tent set up for those people who want to watch LSU and Alabama go at it. So, good food, the football game and entertainment all day," says spokesman Emile Lafourcade.

Gates open at 11 a.m.Saturday and the entertainment begins at noon. Tickets are available at main gate - $7 for adults (13 and up) and $2 for kids (12 and under).

Swamp Fest at Audubon Zoo celebrates Louisiana Cajun culture and heritage Saturday and Sunday.

"This is one of the biggest festivals that we do here...certainly one of our signature festivals," says zoo spokeswoman Sarah Burnette.

The family-oriented festival gives visitors insight into the Cajun way of life through cultural demonstrations, music, food and crafts.

The weekend salute to Louisiana's Bayou country at the Zoo features hands-on encounters with live Louisiana swamp animals and special animal feedings. Swamp Fest is free with Zoo admission. Audubon Zoo members get in free!
