Singles to 'Meet and Sniff'

Hearts may be unleashed tonight at a singles get-together for animal lovers.

'Meet-n-Sniff' is an opportunity for single dog lovers, and their dogs, to connect.

"Because people always seem to be more comfortable to meet people when they have dogs or their pets around," says Deedra Wing, owner of the Canine Connection. "And if your pets can't get along it's just not going to work."

'Meet-n-Sniff' is being held at the Canine Connection, 4920 Tchoupitoulas, from 6 to 8:30p.m.

Singles looking for 'Playdates' can register by bringing a photo of themselves and their pet. Their pictures will be posted on a wall by their assigned ID numbers.

Listen to Don Ames' conversation with Wing:

"As soon as everyone has registered, the sniffing begins," says Wing.

"When you spot someone you would like to have further contact with, discreetly place an 'I Want to Meet You' card in the envelope on the wall beneath that person's picture."

"At the end of the evening, collect your envelope complete with the first names, email addresses, and ID numbers of the singles interested in meeting you. You can then connect with your matches through email when you return home. Or during the evening, sneak a quick peak in your envelope, match the ID numbers with the photos on the board and mingle with your admirers at the event."

"If you want to bring your pet, you can," says Wing. "They should be well behaved, and on a leash."

That may be good advice for the owners as well.

The $10 registration fee benefits the Louisiana SPCA.
