Where are the H 1 N 1 vaccinations? That's was the question today at a legislative hearings at the Louisiana State Capital as the number of deaths linked to the disease grow.
"We're really at the mercy of the distribution process at the federal level," Health Secretary Al Levine said.
It comes as there were six more Swine Flu deaths reported over the past week in the state. Three of the victims are children. The death toll is now 30 for Louisiana.
"All I can tell people is to be patient," Levine explained. "There is not enough supply yet."
Listen to Levine:
Officials say the state has ordered 332,700 doses, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta had sent about 253,800 doses by last Wednesday. They say 544 providers in Louisiana have administered 31,094 doses.
He says when more of it is available they will run a public awareness campaign so people can locate the vaccine.
"Most schools will be administering (the vaccine)," Levine said. "We're assembling strike teams to help the schools administer in the schools, with parental permission."
