Compromise in pitbull attack case

A pitbull that attacked a woman in Larose is going to live for now.

A Lafourche Parish judge has agreed to let Shank go to doggy jail of sorts instead of the animal death chamber.

The 3-year-old pitbull will live in the custody of the Pontchartrain Humane Society for the next six months.

Cops wanted the dog put to death. The owner wanted to take Shank home and keep the animal locked up.

In the end, the parties agreed to let the animal rescue group keep the pitbull for a half a year.

The dog seriously injured a woman last week and she now needs multiple reconstructive surgeries on her arm.

State Representative Rickey Hardy is the author of the state's new dangerous pets law. He says not only should the dog die, but under his law passed this year the owner should go to jail for up to 6 months. The owners have been charged.
