Couple finds cop in car allegedly committing crime

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand says his deputies have arrested a Jean Lafitte Police Officer.

Anthony J. Molinario is a 27-year-old cop from Luling. He allegedly burglarized a vehcile behind the Jean Lafitte Town Hall last week.

"Investigators interviewed witnesses who reported parking their vehicle behind the Town Hall and going for a walk. Upon returning back to their vehicle they noticed the dome light was illuminated and upon looking into their vehicle observed a... subject wearing what appeared to be a police uniform inside of their car," Sheriff's Colonel John Fortunato said in a news release.

The couple got the license plate number of the private SUV that officers used to drive away.

"Upon learning this information, the suspect in question was identified as Anthony Molinario, a police officer with the Jean Lafitte Police Department. Molinario was questioned regarding the incident and denied and involvement," Fortunato said. "As the investigation continued, Molinario agreed to submit to a polygraph examination; which resulted in him showing signs of deception."

Molinario turned himself in after detectives got a warrant.
