Congressman Steve Scalise has called a news conference Monday "to Ask President Obama to spend more time in Southeast Louisiana."
The Metairie Republican has picked one of the points where the levees failed to try and drive home his point.
"Congressman Steve Scalise is hosting a press conference... at the 17th Street Canal in Lakeview to highlight the importance for President Obama to spend more time in Southeast Louisiana," Scalise Communications Director Luke Bolar said in a news release.
Bolar points out that Scalise is not alone in his concerns about the length of the trip.
"Scalise and others have urged the President to extend his visit so he can experience first-hand the ongoing recovery efforts and needs," Bolar said.
Senators David Vitter, a Republican, and Mary Landrieu, a Democrat, have expressed wishes that the president would spend more time in the region. Congressman Charlie Melancon, a Democrat, said he wishes President Obama could see more of the recovery and hurricane protection too.
