State and local investigators say the shooting death of a Mandeville man in Franklinton was the result of an attempted robbery gone wrong.
According to Franklinton Police Department Lt. Justin Brown, detectives have arrested and charged two local men with first-degree murder.
Brown said after police arrived at the scene of an apparent car accident on Alford Street Sunday just after 11:00pm Sunday, they found the body of 58-year-old Jimmy Brock of Mandeville slumped behind the wheel.
"When officers arrived on the scene, they noticed injuries not consistent with a frontal-impact crash," Brown said.
Officers roped off the area as a possible crime scene, and contact the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for assistance in processing the site.
Brown said that the victim had been shot once in the back and once in the head.
Listen to Brown talk about the case:
Detectives say that witnesses and one of the suspects later confirmed that the two suspects, 17-year-old Kendarious Bautista and 19-year-old Delaris Jenkins had hatched a plot to rob the victim.
According to Brown, the two suspects' scheme including having Jenkins wear a wig to pose as woman, in attempt to gain entry into the victim's vehicle.
Brown said that after the disguised suspect got into the victim's car, Brock kicked him out after realizing he was a man. However, Brown said that the victim drove off, and then drove back to Alford street, where the 2nd suspect, Bautista, forced himself into the back seat of the car. Officials say that was when Bautista shot the victim twice.
Police arrested the two suspects after interviewing witnesses.
