A spokeswoman for the Tangipohoa Parish Sheriff's Office says police are hunting for three suspects believed to have broken into a home on South Baptist Road just outside the city limits of Hammond.
Dawn Panepinto says that the early-morning home invasion just after 1:00am left a 72-year-old woman dead of a gunshot wound, and her husband also suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police have not yet released a motive at this time.
Investigators are searching for "three black males, two of which were wearing light colored tee-shirts."
According to Panepinto, the husband is in the hospital in stable condition.
