Kristian: LSU lands a big one

Coach Les Miles’ LSU Tigers got a huge commitment for their 2010 football recruiting class, literally and figuratively.

Offensive lineman Evan Washington is a 6’6”, 295 pounder from Desoto Texas.  He pledged his desire to play in Death Valley. Washington is the 17th commitment for the 2010 Tigers, in what is shaping up to be a stellar class for LSU.

"It's a byproduct of what you've seen throughout the years.  The team has been a perennial contender, not only in the SEC, but also for a BCS national championship.  And, right now across the deep south their looked at like what Miami of Florida was back in the late 80's and early 90's,”  WWL’s Mike Detillier said.  “LSU has become a major, major player for some of the top performers, not only in Louisiana but across the Deep South."

Washington is rated by rivals.com as the 17th best player in the country at his position (offensive tackle).  Detillier expects big things from the massive Blue-Chipper. "I think he's a guy that could possibly come in and see extensive playing time as a freshmen or start.  He's that good of a player."

The Tigers have had tremendous success in landing anchors to their offensive line in the last 8 years.  They've had two offensive tackles man the left tackle spot for the purple in gold.  Andrew Witworth held the position for 4 years and Ciron Black did the same.

Detillier  says  Washington may follow suit.   "Evan looks like he may be a guy that could man that left tackle position for 4 years; outstanding prospect and a big time pick up for LSU."

Evan's father, Marvin Washington, played defensive end for 11 seasons in the NFL with the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, and Denver Broncos.
