Organizers say this year's Essence Music Festival in New Orleans is on track to surpass even last year's huge crowds.
The weekend-long celebration features performances by artists like Al Green, Anita Baker, Lionel Richie and Robin Thicke. But for last night's concert opener, it was all about Michael Jackson.
Beyonce', John Legend, Ne-Yo and Salt-n-Pepa were among those saluting the late pop star. The tribute included a video montage and a traditional New Orleans-type jazz funeral procession.
Jackson's voice was also piped in, echoing across the Louisiana Superdome.
Queen Latifah calls Jackson "the greatest entertainer of all time.'' She says his unexpected death leaves many in the music world scrambling to pay proper respects.
More tributes to the late pop star are expected today, though plans have not been officially announced.
Organizers also say that the complete sellout of the Louisiana Superdome on Friday night was a first in the 15 years of the festival.
