The Uncle Sam Jam in Metairie gets the 4th of July weekend underway this evening.
Chairman Michael Martin is confident the weather will cooperate. "Just show up with a smile and maybe a little sunscreen," says Martin.
Listen to Don Ames' conversation with Martin:
The Lafreniere Park starts at 4 o'clock. "There's children's activities and fun for the family. There'll be snowballs and beer and hot dogs and drinks," Martin says.
Live music starts at 5:30 when Ghost Town will perform. The New Orleans Concert Band takes over at 7. "They'll play patriotic music for a couple hours, culminating with Jefferson Parish's largest fireworks extravaganza at 9 p.m.," says Martin.
The event is free and open to the public.
