Food, fireworks and music at the Mandeville Seafood Fest

The 31st annual Mandeville Seafood Festival features two stages of music, two dozen food vendors, and the Northshore's biggest fireworks display.

Festival spokesman Jim Richardson says the food selection is designed the whet the appetite of hungry fest-goers.

"Soft-shell crabs is a big crowd favorite," Richardson said. "Gumbos, and pastas, and seafood lasagnas, crawfish, shrimp, crab, you name it.. seafood, it's going to be here, any way you like it."

Richardson said that the fireworks display on Saturday night is the Northshore's largest, which also attracts hundreds people who watch from their boats on Lake Pontchartrain.

"You know, it's funny, because if you're driving by, or even standing on the stage area, and look out over the lake...all you see is these little lights dotting the lake, and people love to do that," he said.

Heavy thunderstorms forced organizers to cancel last night's festival kick-off concert by Mark Chesnutt and Sammy Kershaw.

However, Richardson said that anyone who bought a ticket to the concert could instead use that concert ticket to enter the festival all three days of the event.
