Mayors ask Governor to veto "anti-speed trap" bill

A group of Louisiana mayors is asking Governor Bobby Jindal to veto a bill they say will take needed revenue away from their cities, but supporters of the bill say they're trying to discourage speed traps.

Morgan City mayor Tim Matte is part of the group asking the governor for the veto. For speeding violations under ten miles an hour over the limit, the fine is taken from a city and put in the state's transportation fund.

"Here's another step where the state is trying to limit the revenue that local government can have," said Matte. "My view is, let's let the people in those communities limit the revenue, if they so choose to do so."

The governor's office says Jindal is considering the bill and the mayors' request.
