Tangipahoa woman shoots and kills husband

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards says a woman shot and killed her husband.

He released details of the incident Saturday.

A news release says cops got the call to the couple's home Thursday night.  "While enroute, deputies learned that shots had been fired as the result of an alleged domestic matter.  The caller stated that she shot her husband several times and could not advise if he was still breathing."

They got to 26205 Harvey Lavigne Road to find the man was dead.

"Upon arrival, deputies secured the scene and observed the victim, John W. Lay Jr., 55, lying on the ground in a pool of blood.  Deputies observed Lay to have a gun shot wound to the upper abdomen and was unresponsive.  Acadian was immediately dispatched.  Upon Acadian’s arrival, paramedics advised deputies that the victim John Lay was deceased."

Detectives say 50-year-old Elizabeth Lay is not currently facing any charges.

"Detectives state that pending investigation, charges may be forthcoming," it says in the news release.
