Five Z's Pitchers Combine To Shut Down Royals

Hayden Penn and four relievers combined to hold the Omaha Royals to five hits en route to a 3-2 victory for the Zephyrs Tuesday night.

Penn, who made his first start for the Z's, settled down after allowing a two-run homer to Scott Thorman in the first inning.

Jarrett Santos (2-3) got the win by pitching two scoreless innings after relieving Penn in the fifth inning, and Chris Mobley pitched a perfect ninth inning to secure his first save of the season.

The New Orleans offense got off to a hot start, crushing nine hits in the first four innings. Gaby Sanchez and John Lindsey both went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Dave Matranga added an RBI double of his own to lead the way for the Z's.

With the win, New Orleans ties their longest home win streak of the season at four games. The series will continue Wednesday afternoon with Clay Hensley (RHP) taking the mound for the Zephyrs as they look for the sweep.
