Cops: 2 shot - 1 dead after Metairie drug deal

A Northshore man is dead after police say he came to Metairie to buy drugs.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand reports that around 10:00pm a man called 911 and reported he and his friend had just been shot while attempting to buy drugs.

It happened in the area of South Causeway Blvd. between the Earhart Expressway and Jefferson Highway.

"First responding officers located a 2009 Ford F150 at the intersection of Burns and South Causeway Blvd. occupied by 2 white male subjects: both suffering from gunshot wounds," Col. John Fortunato wrote in a news release. "The passenger, identified as Darwin Kihnemann, W/M, 40, of 4525 Prairie in Metairie told the officers that it was he who called the police."

He continued, "Kihnemann confirmed that he and his friend, identified as John Montgomery, W/M, 42 of 24093 Harold Court, Abita Springs were in the area attempting to buy drugs when they were shot. Montgomery, who was shot multiple times was pronounced dead of the scene."

Paramedics took Kihnemann to University Hospital. Fortuanto said, "He was treated for multiple gunshot wounds to the lower extremities. His injuries didn't appear to be life threatening at this time."

Police ask anyone with information to call 364-5300 or Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
