Smoke and flames poured from a window in the building at Notre Dame Catholic seminary this morning. The two-alarm fire caused the evacuation of dozens of seminarians and instructors.
"It broke out around ten o'clock this morning," said Archdiocese spokeswoman Sarah Comiskey. "Everyone evacuated the building. There were no injuries."
The fire gutted a guest room in the historic South Carrollton Avenue building.
"We are upset about it, because...this building has gone through a lot," said Father Jose Lavasita. "It could have been a lot worse."
New Orleans Fire Department officials are investigating the cause.
