1 killed and 2 injured in blast near St. James plant




Authorities say a worker was killed today while working on a pipeline near the Louisiana Offshore Oil Platform ("LOOP") facility in St. James Parish.

State Police Sgt. Markus Smith says the accident occured while employees of Marathon Pipeline were doing maintenence on a Marathon pipe running near the LOOP facility.

"One individual was pronounced dead at the scene, and another received minor injuries," said Smith.

Smith said that another person received "serious" injuries with 3rd-degree burns.

According to Smith, the workers were welding on the pipeline when something ignighted, causing the explosion.
