Slidell Police are looking for a motive in an attempted murder case. A woman claims her new roommate shot her in the face Saturday, the day she moved in.
Police say the 60-year-old victim told them that after she answered Richard McCullough's roommate wanted ad a week earlier, the woman was moving in Saturday. The victim said that later that evening, McCullough, 57, asked her to accompany him to a car repair shop, but before they got there, he stopped his car, walked back to hers, and shot her in the face and neck with a small-caliber handgun. She called 911, and Slidell police arrested McCullough and booked him with attempted murder.
According to police, the victim was unable to tell them why McCullough would shoot her.
"That's the million-dollar question, honestly, because we don't have a motive," said Slidell Police Captain Kevin O'Neill. "The victim never gave us any indication of, you know, if there was an argument, or maybe he tried to make some sexual advances and she put him off and this is his way of keeping her quiet, but there was no indication from her of anything."
Captain Kevin O'Neill of Slidell Police:
Capt. O'Neill says McCullough hasn't told them anything since his arrest. Police booked him with attempted murder.
