Fire in Lafourche kills two adults and a child

Authorities say an early morning fire at a Chackbay mobile home claimed the lives of three people -- two adults and a child.

State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says firefighters quickly put it out when they got to the scene around 2:00 a.m., but found three bodies.

"A youth, a male adult, and a female adult," said Browning.

Fire Marshal Butch Browning talks to WWL Baton Rouge bureau reporter Jeff Palermo:

Browning says they don't know the cause of the fire, but thinks the victims could have got out alive if they had working smoke detectors.

"People need these inexpensive smoke detectors in their homes," Browning said.

Authorities have not releasing the names of the victims, pending notification of family members. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
