Crescent City Connection work will lead to online toll tag management

The Crescent City Connection will be shutting down one toll lane at a time today while crews install new technology that will lead to on-line management of toll tag accounts. Most weekends, at least on toll lane is closed, anyway.

"We'll continue to have one lane closed, it's just not going to be the one that most of our motorists are familiar with," says Peggy Olivier, acting director of the Crescent City Connection division of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

Olivier says when work is complete, the new fiber optics being installed will make it easier for them to track toll tag information, and to digitize that data.

"We hope finally have a web site that the public can go to to order toll tags, put payments on their accounts, and those types of things," said Olivier.

The work will also shut down the HOV lanes all weekend, in both directions.
