Water rising over Louisiana Highway 1 prompted mandatory evacuations of Grand Isle and Lafourche parish south of the Leon Theriot floodgate.
Lafourche Parish officials say water starting coming over Highway One around 3:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
"Those people are used to dealing with floodwaters," Lafourche Parish spokesman Brennan Matherne said of the 75 or so home inhabited in that area, "but we asked them to leave because we believe those floodwaters could be there for up to three days."
Lafourche Parish spokesman Brennan Matherne tells WWL's Chris Miller about the mandatory evacuation south of Golden Meadow:
Matherne says the Larose Civics Center has been set up as a shelter.
