JACKSON – Its official… now all hands are on deck here in Jackson as the Saints continue training camp 2008. USC’s Sedrick Ellis agreed to a five–year deal with the Black & Gold and should become an impact player right away.
The Saints pulled off a trade with the New England Patriots in order to land the services of one of the best defenders in college football over the last few seasons. Ellis could be on the practice field with the Saints tomorrow afternoon.
The Saints original draft spot was 10th, but they traded up three spots to the number seven and drafted Sedrick Ellis. In exchange for the seventh pick in the first round, the Saints also received the Patriots fifth round selection (164th), and New Orleans drafted Nebraska Offensive Lineman Carl Nicks.
Ellis was one of the top players in college football the past few seasons with the USC Trojans. Ellis was salty during his senior season, as he racked up 58 tackles including 12 of those for a loss, and he posted a career high 8.5 sacks.
Ellis was a run stopping, bull rushing force for the Trojans, and has a knack for the ball as he deflected seven passes last season with USC. During his career with Southern California, Ellis totaled 144 tackles, which 28.5 were for a loss, and he posted 17.5 sacks.
Sedrick Ellis is in the house. Game on!
