Dave Cohen

DAVE COHEN, News Director for the BIG 870 WWL-AM, 105.3 WWL-FM and WWL.com since 2000.   CNN has Anderson Cooper; WWL has Dave Cohen.  Dave is that special breed of newsman, who can not only quickly grasp the story and tell it, but comprehensively discuss the implications and relate it to the community. While New Orleans held Dave in high esteem before Katrina, the biggest disaster in the history of America gave Dave National acclaim as Dave made several appearances on CNN, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, National Public Radio, the BBC and other national & international media to tell New Orleans story.  He was one of the journalists who stayed in New Orleans through everything Katrina had to offer. Reporting from inside the storm as it moved across the region, Dave was one of the few broadcasters able to stay on the air and tell listeners about the devastation as it happened.  

Dave worked his way to the top of the WWL news team after being a reporter, anchor and assignment editor at the station.  He has done extensive work for the CBS Radio Network. Before moving to New Orleans, Dave ran radio news operations in East Texas and Central Louisiana. He has won numerous national, regional, state and local awards for his work. Dave is a proud graduate of the Journalism School at the University of Missouri, "The first and finest in the nation." He was the morning news anchor for KBIA in Columbia, Missouri while in school and reported for KMOU TV. While at Mizzou, Dave had to opportunity to cover severe flooding along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers for National Public Radio. That was his first taste of disaster reporting. He reported as towns lost sandbagging battles and went underwater. He told listeners how homes, buildings and towns washed away as waters rushed over of the banks of the rivers. Dave got his start in radio at WNTH in Winnetka, Illinois . It is the   radio station at New Trier High School in the Chicago Suburbs where Dave grew up.
