Bob Mitchell

BOB MITCHELL hosts The Bob Mitchell Show weekday evenings from 7 to 10 on the BIG 870, 105.3 WWL-FM and worldwide at WWL.com.  Bob is a homegrown favorite; he’s the only broadcaster to work successfully in this market as a morning show host for over 35 years.  Baby boomers know Bob as “The Real Robert Mitchell.”   He was born and raised right here in New Orleans.  He was lucky enough to get into radio straight out of John McDonough High School. From 1967 till around 1975 he spend most of that time programming and waking people up on the legendary Top 40 am radio station WTIX.  In the mid 70’s he assumed the same duel duties switching to Lite 105FM--lite rock less talk, and somewhere around the mid 80’s switched to KOOLl 95.7FM--still rocking with good times and fun oldies.  Bob shared mornings with the listeners of New Orleans from 1969 till august 29th 2005, the day Katrina hit New Orleans. If you do the math that’s 35 years  Bob, like a lot of  New Orleanians lost his Northshore home and  eyerything else, including his radio station in the storm. That’s when he signed on with WWL. Or, as Bob puts it  “after 35 years I made it to the big show; Talk radio is great; now I am not always being told Bob you talk too much shut up and play more music”  Bob Mitchell is beloved for his real New Orleans style, natural wit and unique perspective on the Rebuilding of New Orleans.  Bob was elected to the Greater New Orleans Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1997. “Hey I got a nice plaque and got it while I was still alive,” laughs Bob.
