State police say a 39-year-old man suffered moderate injuries when his car flipped into a yard in Chackbay and he was thrown on top of a house.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.
State Police Spokesman Gilbert Dardar says state police are waiting for results of a blood test on the driver, Darrell Favorite of Vacherie.
Dardar says Favorite swerved off Louisiana Highway 20 Thursday night, overcorrected twice, and then flipped his Ford Taurus, hitting a mailbox, a street sign, a small ditch and a gas meter before coming to rest in a yard.
The owner of the house, Beverly Rodrigue, says she heard the wreck, came out, and couldn't find the driver, until a neighbor told her to look on her roof.
Nobody else was in the car, and nobody in the house was injured.
Dardar says Favorite was released after being booked with improper lane use, no seatbelt, and first-offense drunken driving.
According to Dardar, Favorite was released because the jail is overcrowded and is not accepting misdemeanor offenders.
