New Orleans Police Chief Warren Riley today announced he has fired two police officers who recently made headlines for unprofessional behavior.
Officer Donyell Sanchell, who was suspended after he allegedly led Crescent City Connection police on a chase, has been dismissed from the New Orleans Police Department. So has Officer Ashely Terry, who was accused of drawing her weapon and screaming expletives in front of dozens of summer-camp children at a New Orleans community center.
"All we can do is continue to push forward and do the right thing," said Riley, when asked if he though this would help build public confidence in the police. "Take swift and appropriate action when it is appropriate and the public will have to judge...for themselves."
Listen to Chief Riley's remarks at the NOPD news conference:
Sergeant Robert L. Guidry, who retired from the New Orleans Police Department wearing the light blue uniform shirt phased out after Hurricane Katrina, will receive a letter of reprimand for being out of uniform. The designation "retired under investigation" has been stricken from his record.
