Saints owner honored with statue

New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson today was honored with the unveiling of a statue in his likeness at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The 87-year-old Benson become emotional when asked to speak after the tarp was pulled down from the statue.

"Boy, that real nice," Benson said before becoming audibly choked up. "I never did think this would happen. I'm so pleased, thank y'all very much."

The statue, on the Dome's grand staircase leading from Champions Square to the plaza, depicts Benson hoisting the Lombardi Trophy after the Saints defeated Indianapolis 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV.

Afterwards, Benson said he expects to polish a second Lombardi Trophy soon.

"Our team's doing so well, and we're going to continue doing well, too," said Benson. "We gotta win another Super Bowl this year."
