Day of Rage demonstration in Lafayette Square a non-event
Don Ames Reporting
A group calling itself 'Anonymous' had called for demonstrations across the country this evening, including in New Orleans, in response to last week's fatal shoting of a black teen by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.
The New Orleans event, called for 6 p.m. in Lafayette Square, never materialized.
As of 6:30 p.m. about ten people had shown up.
New Orleans Police had plans for a contingency of over 300 officers, including plain clothes detectives and members of the Louisiana State Police, to be on hand to keep the demonstration peaceful. It was that.
Police say they found no need to deploy the officers.
A spokesman for the group that called for the demonstration said they hoped to try again on Friday evening in Jackson Square, and hoped for a much better turnout.
