Covington Police today say they have arrested Richard Reed, brother of St. Tammany Parish District Attorney Walter Reed.
The announcement from Chief Tim Lentz did not disclose what the charges are, but earlier this month, WWL-TV reported Richard Reed used a St. Tammany D.A.'s office badge to try to convince Covington police to not arrest a woman who was apparently drunk and acting belligerent at a Northshore restaurant.
Police did issue a summons for the woman on a public intoxication charge. Lentz told WWL-TV his officers did not investigate Richard Reed at the time for any wrongdoing.
A spokesman for the district attorney told WWL-TV the badge was honorary and had "no weight of law." The badge reportedly was returned to the D.A.'s office.
