Louisiana officials ready just in case Ebola comes here

With the death toll from the Ebola outbreak in west Africa nearing 1000, should people in Louisiana be concerned?
"I think at this point it's just trying to get people to be aware and educate themselves about Ebola," said Louisiana Department of Health Medical Director Dr. Frank Welch.

He says there is no real threat of an outbreak in Louisiana.
Welch says the Ebola virus is spread by very close personal contact with an infected person through their bodily fluids.  He says, as a precaution, all hospitals in Louisiana have been alerted about the signs and symptoms of Ebola and how do do a screening for the virus.

Welch says Louisianians shouldn't worry too much about the outbreak.
"Ebola is not spreading within the United States,"  he said.

The federal government is urging Americans to avoid going to countries where Ebola is a threat now.

"Due to an outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the west African nations of Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone, the Centers for Disease Control has issued Health Travel Warnings for those three countries advising against nonessential travel," a fact sheet on the State Department's website says.
