Carjackers take woman's car, leave SUV
A phony plea for help, armed men, and carjackers who leave a vehicle behind: The investigation continues into a weekend crime in Metairie.
The Jefferson Parish sheriff's officials tell us a 39-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were traveling south along Bonnabel Blvd. Saturday night.
"She and her 14 year-old daughter were traveling south in the 600 block of Bonnabel Blvd. when two black males jumped in front of their vehicle asking for assistance," stated a news release from the Sheriff's Office.
The driver told deputies the men claimed they needed help. But when the woman pulled over near a green Ford Explorer, one of the men drew a semi-automatic handgun, and the other pulled out a semi-automatic rifle.
"Once both victims were out of their vehicle, they were ordered to the ground. It was then, the victims claimed, the two armed suspects were joined by the other two B/M's, unknown description, who were in the Explorer. The victim told investigators the suspects backed-up her vehicle towards I-10 and sped away. The Explorer that was left behind by the suspects was towed for further processing. It was not reported stolen," the release continued.
The stolen vehicle is a black Chevy Cobalt (Louisiana license no. WTM 308). Detectives impounded the Explorer for evidence processing. It was not reported stolen. Anyone with information on the carjacking is asked to call the sheriff's office at (504) 364-5300 or Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
