Metairie murder suspect caught in Texas

The man wanted for murdering his girlfriend in Metairie over the weekend then fleeing with three of their children has been caught in a trailer park in Katy, Texas. The three children with him are unhurt, and in the custody of Texas authorities.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says Pedro Alberto Monterosso-Navas killed his girlfriend, 24-year-old Heidi Monroy, over the weekend. Her body was discovered in a bathtub in a residence in the 4000-block of Durand Street.

''It was determined that she died from blunt force trauma to the head,'' said Col. John Fortunato of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say Monterosso-Navas fled with three of his children, setting off a manhunt that lasted most of Sunday. It came to an end when investigators learned of a phone conversation between one of Monterosso-Navas' other children and an acquaintance in Katy, Texas. That child's mother called 911 center in Jefferson Parish, which ultimately proved to be the break authorities needed to catch up to Monterosso-Navas and take him into custody.

''Investigators from Katy, Texas proceeded to a trailer park where he was taken into custody without incident," Fortunato said. "The three children were turned over to the Texas authorities as well.''
Monterosso is facing a charge of second degree murder.
