Twenty-one year old is second drowning death in Plaquemines this week
Plaquemines Parish authorities are investigating the second drowning in the parish this week.
The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office received a 911 call about 1:15 a.m., about a man found unresponsive in a swimming pool at a residence in the 200 block of Burmaster Street in Belle Chasse.
Plaquemines deputies say someone on the scene had administered CPR, but 21-year-old Shawn Meladine died after being taken to the hospital.
The drowning victim was one of about 20 people at a pool party Friday night. Several of them went swimming shortly after midnight, and it wasn't until later that one of them noticed Meladine's lifeless body in the water.
His death appears to be the second accidental drowning death in Plaquemines in the past three days.
On Thursday, the body of 57-year-old Belle Chasse resident Edward Cortez was recovered from the Hero Canal by the Sheriff's Office Marine Division. Cortez went missing on the evening of July 2 after a day of boating.
