Federal authorities say Congressman Bill Jefferson's brother has been indicted on corruption charges.

U.S. Attorney Jim Letten made the announcement. "A federal Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Mose Jefferson for federal bribery, obstruction of justice and money laundering offenses."

Listen to Letten and others announcing the indictment:

Listen:

He says Jefferson allegedly paid former School Board President Ellenese Brooks Simms $140,000 dollars in bribes for her to secure a contracts for educational software.

Letten says Jefferson was paid nearly a million dollars in commissions for the contracts.

The U.S. Attorney says this case is particularly important because it involves the education of the city's children.

Brooks-Simms has already entered a guilty plea in the case.

Letten today also told reporters to expect two more major developments in corruption cases soon.
