Covington woman arrested in $55K SNAP fraud case

A Covington woman, who recently made news headlines after her 17-year-old autistic son was beat up while walking home from the Covington library, was arrested following an investigation into SNAP benefit fraud.

38-year-old Christine Kelley was picked up by St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs Deputies in downtown Covington and was arrested on a felony theft warrant.

The arrest came after the state Department of Children and Family Services completed a lengthy investigation into the SNAP (food stamp) benefits Kelley was receiving for her family.

Kelley is accused of lying on her benefit application, stating she was divorced and not claiming her husband’s income. Since 2008, she has reportedly received $55,000 in fraudulent SNAP benefits.

Kelley was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail and was released on bond.
