Dave Cohen Reporting
Northshore cops say a group of 15 year olds broke into a church, stole more than two-thousand dollars from the poor box and made off with wine and jewelry.
"Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office have arrested three Slidell-area juveniles in connection with the burglary of a Slidell-area church," Capt. George Bonnett said in a news release. "The church burglary was discovered by employees of St .Genevieve Parish Church, 58189 Highway 433, Slidell."
He says the teens destroyed the safe and looked for anything else valuable they could find.
"The 'poor box' containing approximately $2,100 was taken along with several bottles of wine and jewelry that was being stored in the safe. The suspects also destroyed several computer monitors and damaged several doors throughout the building during the course of the burglary," according to Bonnett.
He says that some of the money and property that was taken from the church has been recovered, while investigators continue efforts to recover the remaining property.
