Tulane's Yulman Stadium takes shape

In three months, the Tulane Green Wave football team hosts Georgia Tech for their home opener. And by "home," we mean on the Uptown campus for the first time since the Green Wave left the old Tulane Stadium in favor of the Superdome in 1975.

The new stadium is coming along and university officials are excited about it.

"The energy and the excitement that will come to the surrounding area here is just going to be phenomenal, especially that first season," said Jim Alty, vice president of facilities at Tulane. "We're hoping that'll just grow every year."

The stadium will seat 24,000 fans with the ability to hold up to 30,000 with standing-room only. The stands and scoreboard are up as crews continue working on the press box, stadium club and other interior sections.

"It's been coming along really nicely," Alty said.  "We've got the structure all in place now, we're starting to close in, as we call it, all the windows and the glass and the walls are going in."

Alty said they're on schedule, and fully expect to begin tailgating Saturday, September 6.
