Will Mitch Landrieu run for governor?

If the election for governor of Louisiana were held today, polls show it could be a tight race between New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Senator David Vitter.

Landrieu talked about the race with WWL's Angela Hill, and he seemed certain that he would not run... at first.

"No, I love being the mayor of the city of New Orleans," he insisted.

He then added, "When you are a politician, you never say never."

Landrieu even noted why perhaps he should run.

"People have made the argument to me, 'You can do more from the governor's chair for the city of New Orleans than you can as mayor."

Landrieu added, "Who knows what it's going to look like a year and a half from now."

He went on to talk about issues he has with the way the state government is running.

"Things that they have done really make you kinda wonder, you know, what direction we are going in as a state.  You have to think about all of those issues. The city of New Orleans doesn't live in isolation."

So, the mayor did make a case for him to run for governor.

"But it's not something I spend a lot of time thinking about," he added.

Landrieu repeated the "never say never" statement, and he again stressed how much he wants to continue to be mayor.

"I think we have a lot of work to do here."

The election is in October of 2015.
