Taking a moment to remember

This is a day to remember the fallen heroes of the U.S. but many people are celebrating just having a day off from work. But officials say everyone can take part in the spirit.

During the day and while folks enjoy back yard barbecues, crawfish boils and gatherings. David Lacerte, a Deputy Secretary with the Louisiana Veterans Affairs department says there is nothing wrong with that, but he asks that people to take out a moment to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

''I think the most important thing to remember on Memorial day is celebration and a sense of happiness for what we have, because of those people,'' said Lacerte.

He says for military families this can be a more solemn day, especially for those who have lost loved ones in action.

''Individuals who have lost a son or daughter, a sister or brother in combat and it's important to think of those people because their dynamic is a little different today,'' he said.
