Saints Select CB in Round 2

With the 26th selection of the 2nd Round, the 58th overall pick, the New Orleans Saints select Stanley Jean-Baptiste, cornerback out of Nebraska.

Jean-Baptiste – 6'3, 218lbs –  originally attended Fort Scott Community College (Kansas) before transferring to Nebraska.  He initially played wide receiver but was converted to a cornerback in 2011.

In the three years of playing time, Jean-Baptiste recorded 74 total tackles, 22 pass break-ups, and 7 interceptions, 4 of which came during his senior year, which tied him for the team lead.

He showed steady improvement each year after the position change and looks to have a high ceiling.  Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman played wide receiver in college before switching to corner; and his success, along an influx of taller receivers, has led to a rise in demand for big, tall cornerbacks.

Jean-Baptiste is a Miami, Florida native; and he was a star wide receiver for his high school, Westlake Prep.

While he is big and tall, some have criticized his lack of elite speed.  His 4.61 40 yard dash time did not dispel that notion.
