LSU's Beckham expected to be high draft pick

The NFL draft is tomorrow night and former LSU standout Odell Beckham, Jr. is in New York City to hear his name called.  Beckham, the 2013 Paul Hornung award winner, is expected to be picked in the first round.

Nelson Stewart, Beckham's football coach at Isidore Newman High School, thought he could be a future first round pick.
"I think the intangibles were there.  It's one of those things, when you have him I don't think you always realize just how special he is.  When we look back at highlights, now, he took your breath away," Nelson explained.  "And he did the same things you saw at Tiger stadium, he was doing at Lupin Field on Friday nights.  We really did feel he had a chance."
Analysts have projected Beckham as high as a number ten pick in the draft.  He would be the sixth LSU wide receiver ever picked in the first round.  Nelson says that he's not as concerned about what specific team picks Beckham, as long as that team will further his development.

"My personal hope, and I think his, is just to be a part of a really solid organization, hopefully with an experienced quarterback and someone he can develop chemistry with," his former coach said.
Beckham will be joined in New York by another Louisiana player projected to go in the first round, former Thibodaux High and Auburn offensive lineman Greg Robinson.  No matter who selects Beckham, Nelson believes he has the opportunity to have a great career.

"A scout told me that he can play slot, he can play on the perimeter, he can return kicks.  He's so dynamic and he did it in the SEC.  One of my former players, Ronnie Vincent, said the SEC is like playing in the NFL.  And if you can have that kind of success there, I think he'll have success in the National Football League."
