Cabbie dies after shooting in Gretna

Gretna police says a 55-year-old cab driver died overnight after being shot during a robbery.

Deputy Police Chief Anthony H. Christiana Jr. identified the victim as Blake J. Helmer, a long-time driver for Glenn's Cab Co.

The shooting happened last night when Helmer received a call to pick up three passengers. After a foot chase, Christiana says police arrested 17-year-old Jonah Brown in Algiers.

Christiana says Brown faces a charge of first-degree murder.

Police this morning announced the additional arrests of two teenagers allegedly involved in the crime.

They are identified as 18-year-old Ivory Warren and 19-year-old Tavon Corley.  Both are also facing first degree murder charges.
