Dave Cohen Reporting
Police say a woman committed suicide by jumping in front of a school bus full of children in Terrebonne Parish.
"The pedestrian who intentionally jumped in front of a Terrebonne Parish school bus Tuesday afternoon has died as a result of the injuries from the incident," Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said in a news release. "The victim has been identified as Madelon Sanders (above), 54, of Carriage Cove in east Houma."
Investigators say the woman was pronounced dead at University Hospital in NewOrleans Tuesday night at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Captain Dawn Foret says, "At approximately 2:30 p.m., TPSO and Louisiana State Police responded to a complaint in reference to a pedestrian hit by a school bus on East Park Avenue just south of the Howard Avenue Bridge. The bus was carrying a load of students from Houma Junior High School and Terrebonne High School."
She says none of the students were injured.
"TPSO investigated the accident and determined that the pedestrian that was struck actually ran out into the street in front of the bus. The incident appears to be a suicide," Foret said. "The driver of the school bus was deemed not to be at fault."
