Strawberry festival begins this evening
It's just so gorgeous in south Louisiana this weekend that just one festival won't do! Ponchatoula puts on its best this weekend for the annual celebration of its juicy red strawberries.
This year's Strawberry Queen, Gabrielle Palma, says it's a trip a lot of people will make.
"It is such a small community, but during festival time, the streets are packed with people from all over the country and even the world," she said. Around 200,000 visitors are expected at Ponchatoula's Memorial Park through Sunday.
Fried strawberries, strawberry shortcake, strawberry preserves, strawberry pie, strawberry muffins, and more than just food.
"We have so many things to offer here: sack race, parades and we also have our non-profits," Palma said.
The Strawberry Fest begins today. Entertainment starts at 5:15. Click here for more information from the festival's website.
