Mother arrested, father wanted in fire that killed toddlers

Houma Police say they have arrested the mother of two children who were killed in a fire on March 15. Their father is still wanted.

Houma Police Lt. Dana Coleman says Romell Welsh Sr. and Vaneshia Valentine face two counts of manslaughter.

Funeral services were held for the two toddlers, 2 year old Romell Welsh Jr. and 1 year old Ro'Miya Welsh on Monday. Coleman says attempts to locate the parents following the services were unsuccessful.

Police have not said where the parents were at the time of the fire, but it is known they were not at home. Coleman says due to the nature of the incident and it's surrounding circumstances, they feel the manslaughter charge is appropriate.
