Saints to split training camp between Metairie, West VA

The New Orleans Saints today announced they plan to hold their 2014 training camp in two locations: at the team practice facility on Airline Drive in Metairie, and the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia.

Dates for training camp practices, and the exact location of where they will practice while in West Virginia, will be released at a later date.

"After careful analysis and numerous organizational discussions, we have made the decision to alter certain elements of our upcoming training camp practices by splitting the practice locations between our facility in Metairie and The Greenbrier," said Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis in a statement from the team. "We feel like this decision will allow our team to best prepare for our 2014 season by practicing at our facility and also taking advantage of a more moderate climate and setting in West Virginia, similar to what we did in 2009 when we went to southern California for a week."

The Greenbrier is a National Historic landmark that occupies more than 10,000 acres of the Appalachian Mountain range.  It includes four golf courses, indoor and outdoor tennis facilities and a 40,000-square-foot spa rated among the best in the world.

The Greenbrier was also the Cold War site of "Project Greek Island," a classified shelter to house members of Congress in the event of a full-scale nuclear attack. The government decommissioned the bunker after the Cold War ended. The resort now offers tours of it.

Kristian: Saints are focusing on the details
The little things: The little things get you beat. A play here and a play there in the NFL really is the difference between being 0-2 and 2-0. The Saints say the harsh reality of their 0-2 start is about paying attention to the little things: "We just...
